USC Collegium musicum directed by Adam Knight Gilbert

A concert of music composed and performed for the Medici Popes Leo X from 1513 – 1610, featuring Henricus Isaac’s mysterious Missa Argentum et aurum

The program will the paradox of the Medici popes, whose culture simultaneously reflected the height of Renaissance sacred music and secular opulence. A hallmark of the Medici composer Henricus Isaac, Missa Argentum et aurum conceals a web of visual alchemical, visual, and theological symbolism that is at once accessible and worthy of the most esoteric tastes.
