#justiceRachael Denhollander, in conversation with Professor Ange-Marie Hancock Alfaro, on the intersection of institutional justice and personal forgiveness.
Lawyer and former gymnast Rachael Denhollander is an advocate and educator who became known internationally as the first woman to file a police report and speak publicly against Larry Nassar. Known as one of the most prolific sexual abusers in recorded history, Nassar served as a doctor for decades at Michigan State University and for the USA Gymnastics national team. As a result of Denhollander’s activism, over 250 women came forward as survivors of Nassar’s abuse, leading to his life imprisonment.
In 2018, Time Magazine listed Denhollander as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. She is a recipient of the Heart Ambassadors Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributing to Social Justice and has been a panelist on a United Nations Peace Messenger Organization at the UN’s 62nd Commission on the Status of Women. Rachael holds a Juris Doctorate from Oak Brook College of Law and is a member of the California Bar Association.
Sponsored by the USC Annenberg Knight Program in Media and Religion, The Veritas Forum and the Office of Religious Life.
