Food often serves as a through line connecting our past to our present, can it therefore be used to tell us our future? In the tradition of looking back to help us move forward (sankofa), can we rediscover our foodways to help us dream of healthier futures and heal our past? Part-cooking class, part-world-building, join activists Charlene Carruthers and Tia Oso and artist Ashley Jane Lewis in this event to unlock new futures through food (and eating) inspired by the Black diaspora.

Ingredients will be shared one week prior to the event, so attendees will be ready to cook with panelists.

Presented by the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab, co-sponsored by Visions & Voices and Arts in Action, this workshop is part of a longer series of events under Portal: A Healing & Dreaming Experience of Afrofutures.

Over three afternoons of multisensory exploration, storytelling and discussion, AnnLab fellows, students, alumni and guests from all over the nation will help open a portal to a new reality where participants will explore ways to embody new futures together virtually. What future are you bringing?
