DESCRIPTION:Join USC President Carol Folt for a conversation with Rachel Ma
larich\, City Forest Officer for the City of Los Angeles\, moderated by Dea
n Amber Miller\, as they discuss how the City and USC are working together
and with community organizations to expand and improve L.A.’s urban forest.
Trees provide numerous benefits\, from lowering heat and reducing air poll
ution to regulating ground water and supporting emotional health. But it ta
kes more than shovels and trees to build a thriving urban forest. So the Ci
ty partnered with USC’s faculty and students to produce a data-driven visio
n for how and where to plant so as to maximize benefits to residents in Eas
tside neighborhoods. The vision is expected to help the City with its ambit
ious plan to plant tens of thousands of shade trees in underserved communit
ies across Los Angeles as part of its Green New Deal.\n\n Presented by the
Office of Sustainability\, Dornsife College of Letters\, Arts & Sciences\,
and LA Department of Public Works.\n\n Join event: https://usc.zoom.us/j/99
