Through a historical survey of image management practices at the New York Public Library, the Museum of Modern Art, and early stock photography agency H. Armstrong Roberts Inc., Picture-Work explores how photographic images came to be seen as mobile capital in networks of large-scale collections in the twentieth century, and how these collections are transforming in the twenty-first.
Diana Kamin is advanced lecturer in communication and media studies at Fordham University, New York. Her broad research interests include intersections of visual culture and information history, and her research can be found in Information & Culture, Journal of Visual Culture, and Artforum.com, among others.
