 n\n\n \n\n \n\nSpeakers\n\nLázaro Lima (Ph.D.\, Maryland) is a Professor 
 of Latino Studies in the Department of Africana\, Puerto Rican\, and Latin
 o Studies at Hunter College\, CUNY. A scholar and documentary filmmaker\, 
 his work centers on the political\, historical\, juridical\, educational\,
  and cultural industries that enable Latino democratic legibility and part
 icipation to emerge in civil society.\n\nLima's books include Being Brown:
  Sonia Sotomayor and the Latino Question (U of California Press\, 2019)\, 
 Ambientes: New Queer Latino Writing\, with Felice Picano (U of Wisconsin P
 ress\,  2011)\, and The Latino Body: Crisis Identities in American Literar
 y and Cultural Memory ​(NYU Press\, 2007). He is the executive producer 
 and co-writer of two documentary films\, Las Mujeres: Latina Lives\, Ameri
 can Dreams (Deronda Productions\, 2016)\, and Rubí: A DACA Dreamer in Tru
 mp’s America (Deronda Productions\, 2019/2020). His films have been show
 cased at the Smithsonian Museum of American History's Warner Brothers Thea
 ter\, PBS\, the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies\, Fem
  Flicks\, and other venues. \n\n \n\nJoan Flores-Villalobos earned her Ph.
 D. from New York University in African Diaspora History. Formerly an Assis
 tant Professor of History at Ohio State University\, Flores-Villalobos joi
 ned the USC Department of History in Autumn 2020. She specializes in the h
 istory of gender\, race\, and migration. Her current book project\, The Si
 lver Women: Intimacy and Migration in the Panama Canal\, explores the labo
 r migration of West Indian women during the Panama Canal construction\, fr
 om 1904 to 1914\, and the diasporic affective and economic linkages they c
 reated during this period. Her work has been supported by grants from the 
 Ford Foundation\, the American Historical Association\, and the American A
