The USC Center for the Political Future is excited to host The Honorable Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles, in conversation with CPF Spring 2024 Fellow Michael Tubbs. Join us on Tuesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. PST at Science Lecture Hall (SLH) 100 for a discussion on good governance at a local level, the challenges of politics in Los Angeles, and creating meaningful policy in a dynamic city.

Michael Tubbs is the Special Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility and Opportunity; the Founder of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, and the Founder of End Poverty in California. In 2016 became the City of Stockton’s first African-American Mayor and the youngest Mayor of any major city in American history. His study group at USC, “Being a Mayor in the 21st Century — The Room Where it Happens (At Least Locally),” focuses on good governance, policy, politics, and innovation. 

 

Karen Bass is the 43rd Mayor of Los Angeles and the first woman and second African American to be elected as the city's chief executive. She has started her term with a focus on reducing the unhoused population and increasing safety and opportunity in every part of Los Angeles. She is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, where she served for over a decade. Before her election to Congress, she represented the 47th District in the California State Assembly, where she spent a year as the Speaker of the Assembly.

There are limited seats for in-person attendance. For in-person attendees, it is required to register in advance and present a valid photo ID upon check-in. Any disruption during the event will result in immediate removal from the facility.
