About this Event
Marion Davies was one of the most influential actresses of her time–and a savvy businesswoman. Filled with her own ambitions, triumphs, and frustrations, Davies was much more than the label with which she’s most remembered: as the mistress of media magnate William Randolph Hearst. Lara Gabrielle’s new biography, Captain of Her Soul: The Life of Marion Davies, gives us an insider’s look into this leading lady’s life. Steering away from salacious detail, this deeply researched book looks at the Hearst family from the viewpoint of Davies. Alta Journal publisher and Hearst’s grandson, Will Hearst, reviewed Gabrielle’s book for the magazine. He joins Gabrielle and historian William Deverell for an insider’s look at a woman often overshadowed by her lover’s name.
