The Center for Transpacific Studies 2026 symposium, “Circulations Across the Pacific: Rethinking Transpacific Method and Motion,” will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 3:30-5:30 pm in SCI 206. The roundtable will explore emerging directions in Transpacific Studies, with particular attention to theoretical and methodological approaches to circulation—of people, things, and ideas—across Asia and the Pacific. What enables movement across the Pacific, and what obstructs, redirects, or compels continual motion? What are the political, social, and material consequences of movement—or of constrained mobility? How might different disciplinary understandings of “circulation” reshape the field of transpacific studies?

The conversation will feature Dr. Christopher Patterson (University of British Columbia), Dr. Seungyeon Gabrielle Jung (University of California, Irvine), Dr. Aimee Bahng (Pomona College), and Dr. Long Bui (University of California, Irvine).
