ADMISSION:
Admission is free.

RSVP

DESCRIPTION:
Join us for a special Visions and Voices signature event celebrating the closing of our 20th season with Emmy- and Golden Globe–nominated artist Natasha Lyonne, who continues to push boundaries as a producer, actor, writer, and director after more than three decades in the industry. In an engaging and intimate conversation with USC cinematic arts professor Tara McPherson, Lyonne will reflect on her creative journey, share behind-the-scenes stories, and explore the transformative power of the arts.

Natasha Lyonne is a five-time Emmy and two-time Golden Globe nominee who, alongside Amy Poehler, co-created the quantum entanglement comedy Russian Doll, which won three Emmy Awards. She produced, wrote, starred, and directed the series which cemented her interests in science and futurism.

Lyonne is also known for her acclaimed performances in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black; the clever mystery series Poker Face, which she also executive produced; the beloved comedy, Slums of Beverly Hills, directed by Tamara Jenkins and co-starring Alan Arkin and Marisa Tomei; the coming-of-age comedy, But I’m a Cheerleader, with Clea Duvall and RuPaul; and Everyone Says I Love You.

Lyonne founded her award-winning production company, Animal Pictures, producing Poker Face, His Three Daughters, Russian Doll, Loot, and The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy and multiple comedy specials for Netflix, which she also directed.

With Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Bryn Mooser, she co-founded the film studio, Asteria. Together, they aligned with the engineers at Moonvalley to help create Marey, the first copyright clean underlying foundational filmmaking tool for the industry. A staunch advocate for artists’ rights, Lyonne has been outspoken and influential in facing the coming tech wave head-on.

She will make her feature directorial debut on the semi-autobiographical Bambo, written by Lyonne, about her Brooklyn-born boxing promoter father who set out and failed to become the next Don King. Bambo is produced by Craig Mazin for Word Games and Animal Pictures.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices.
