BIO: Laura Kang is Chair & Professor of Gender & Sexuality Studies at the University of California, Irvine. She is the author of Compositional Subjects: Enfiguring Asian/American Women (2002) and Traffic in Asian Women (forthcoming from Duke University Press).

Traffic in Asian Women examines the prolific representation and circulation of “Asian women” through the convergence of new communication technologies, governance regimes, and political-economic shifts at the end of the 20th century. Concomitantly, there was an expansion and proliferation of scholarship on "Asian women" both within traditional academic disciplines and across a range of interdisciplinary formations, which were themselves undergoing significant theoretical and methodological splintering during this period.  In tracing the activation of specific routes and modes of transnational knowledge production, how might we recast “Asian women” not as a fixed and endangered constituency but rather as a dense methodological portal of a critical interdisciplinarity?
