Alison Rice, of the University of Notre Dame, will present a talk, arguing that that Francophone women writers in Paris are enhancing the French-language literary landscape because, paradoxically, they have been singled out-and often ostracized-for their accents.  Their literary writings are participating in a reversal of this complex by placing an accent on other, often ignored experiences in the French capital, on the plight of immigrants who suffer from xenophobic attitudes because their speech varies from what is expected.
